An outgoing woman with an outwardly sunny disposition (well, most of the time) Ochiba is here to party, a sentiment she will strongly stress if asked to do any work.

In classic Mantis fashion she's a sailor by trade, first mate on a ship that plows the dark space between stars. It's apparent her modest success is earned not inherited given the fact her parents only appear to have entered the Mantis Clan data archives a couple decades ago. This is not a fact she appears to enjoy having brought up in casual conversation.

Ochiba is not particularly famous, but if one looks into her records there are a couple exciting and bold euphemisms for 'got into a lot of fights' used for her schooling and her current actual position is described only in the broadest of terms. It's hardly a glowing record, although judging from the way she splashes cash around it is a successful one.

Known for being:

• Here to enjoy herself - Ochiba makes no effort to pretend this assignment is a holiday for her. While she'll do the bare minimum of work anything that involves enjoying herself and trying new things is likely to take her fancy.
• Tattooed - A pair of matching electro-ink tattoos run down her arms. If she gets particularly annoyed they glow slightly, this does not usually herald good things.
• Criminally Inclined - Ochiba does not appear to make her money on the right side of the law, nor does this really bother her. She's considerably more flexible on some issues than the average samurai.
• Armed with a disposition to match - She's also fairly flexible on shooting people, places and things. If you need some muscle (even better if you're willing to pay for it) Ochiba has a mutually beneficial capacity for violence.

[Bayushi Kazushi]

Some of you might have heard of Bayushi Kazushi, primarily as a result of his father's (Renzo) brief consideration for the Scorpion Championship following the unfortunate demise of his cousin Bayushi Hazuki. Kazushi did not follow in his father's political footsteps, though, opting for a mid-heading-to-upper-level marketing management position in the Orchid Department, where he's better known as the mind behind several of their recent promotions, such as the Kagayaki line of make-up ("Shine with the stars.") and the Yuga-sa clothing line ("Elegance is in the mind of the wearer."), the latter of which he wears almost exclusively. He's also the primary owner and Chair of the Board of Directors for Zakuro-ishi Business Solutions, a consultancy service based out of his home city of Toshi Aitate on Rokugan. His life appears to be one of easy success, and he was set on the path at birth.

Kazushi is always impeccably dressed and groomed in the latest styles of the homeworld, from his perfectly feathered hair to his pressed and flawless attire to the perfectly polished steel mask he wears. Even the energy drinks he always seems to be sipping from are of the trendiest variety. He carries himself with the focused, assured, and professional grace of a born leader. Everything about him speaks of the refined arrogance that comes so naturally to those born to wealth and prestige. He certainly lives up to the image, seeming rudely dismissive of those who don't catch his interest, and carefully and sparingly parceling out kinder comments to those who do. If he deigns to speak to you at all, it's because there's business to be done, and he makes it quite clear that he expects you to play the role he has laid out for you.

The Twins, Kurumi and Katsumi
Kazushi is never alone. He is always accompanied by a pair of beautiful twins who serve him.


Kurumi is Kazushi's bodyguard, and of the two is closest to him - usually by necessity. Her abilities were tested during the recent strife regarding the succession of the Scorpion Championship, as she was called on to protect her charge from an assassination attempt. The effort left her lightly scarred - her left cheek, upper arm, and side - marks that prove her dedication to the safety of her employer. She often comes across as stern and silent, rarely speaking in public unless prompted to by Kazushi. She usually leaves the talking to him and her sister...


Katsumi, Kazushi's secretary, manages his schedule, filters access to him, and monitors all of his interactions. Unlike her sister, Katsumi is quite talkative and friendly, though a bit more timid if she senses a threat. Those who think her easily manipulated, though, often find that they are gravely mistaken. Of the pair, she's the one who's most likely to be encountered alone, or to be otherwise separated from her employer, as Kazushi often trusts her to handle less important matters in his stead.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Suh-Hyun is the very model of a modern Shinjo Astronaut. With experience in fighters, bombers, and a few pleasure yachts. Zipping past every type of ship currently wrought. From corvettes to capitals, up to mighty dreadnaughts.

Curious, outgoing, and perhaps a little reckless, Suh-Hyun is what most people expect of the Shinjo. She manages to give a feeling of motion even while standing still and greets nearly everyone with a smile. She would shake hands as well but decorum being what it is will often refrain from the gesture.

Paler and taller than most with a wiry build marks her as someone who lives her life on ship or in a station. Indeed her family's home lies on the massive station Shinjo's Grace, though she usually answers that the 'void between stars' is her true home. A little humor on her part... though perhaps not an untrue statement.

Not a particularly fashionable lady, Suh-Hyun tends toward comfortable but makes sure she doesn't stand out for the wrong reasons. When acting in any official capacity the Shinjo is in her uniform, with all the awards and patches and badges that announce her whole history of service. Or at least it does to those familiar with the esoteric iconography of the Unicorn navy.

[Susumu Sumiko]

For one so young, Sumiko has surprisingly been to quite a few places on behalf of the Spider. From the Mantis world of New Kalani helping grow relations, to a mining vessel with the Firefly helping to forge trade agreements, to the the infamous World of Dreams where she helped safe an extinct species, to finally also the Spider-Shark shared world of Longshore where she had helped lay the groundworks to form a Wildlife Sanctuary. For a girl that expected to just manage a little library on Whispers she barely has time to even make sure it's running ok beyond quick check ins between the next journey.

Sumiko is a small woman, with short hair partially dyed purple. Her kimonos are always in the style of the Spider; black, and well fitted to her body. However, reluctantly accepting that her preferred old fashioned wardrobe does not suit the vast different worlds she's been assigned to, she has started to wear clothing more suited to the times. Sumiko has been known as the friendly face of the clan along those she's met, surprising many who expect the worst from the Spider clan as she is helpful welcoming and not at all violent. The girl is extremely intelligence with a deep interest in any and every knowledge, no matter the subject type. Although she reveres the Dark Fortunes like all other Spider, she has a particular soft spot for Benten in her life, and she will often include prayers to Benten in her morning duties along with the Dark Fortunes.

On her wrist, there is a beautiful piece of art – two rings round her left wrist, with small Spiders linking them all round her arm. Jade, tattooed into her arm to show her purity. It looks painful (which it was!) but stunning.

• Well Travelled - Sumiko has been to a lot of different locations in the last year, and more prior to that as a diplomat and scholar. She has met with, discussed with and debated with samurai from all clans.
• A friend of the Scorpion - Scorpion who live on the World of Dreams may know of Sumiko's involvement in helping the Wildlife sanctuary recover important samples from a destroyed lab, as well as helping with the beginning of restoration of those creatures. She's befriended many of the researchers and remains in contact with them

[Yasuki Taraka]

Taraka is a junior manager (and presumptive heir) of Flying Battle Carp, Green Carp's aerial drone business. She's a native of the planet with an older sister (married off into the Kaiu) and a younger sister (marrying into the Hida) With the (relatively recent) death of her mother, and her father's tendency to seclude himself in a company design lab, she's been doing what she can from her position to make sure the business continues to turn a profit.

To that end, she has gotten approval to sponsor a competition this season where people can challenge each other to aeriel drone combat and see the results of their duels posted on a leaderboard with the season's top pilot receiving a trophy and a pair of luxury aviator shades. There's been a lot of gossip locally to whether this will actually serve to boost Flying Battle Carp's fortunes or whether it will simply lead to one scandal or another.

[Kaiu Nagisa]

Owner of the Tetsuo Auto Repair Shop, Nagisa has long been a local on this planet given her family's history. While reserved and sometimes a bit too quiet, to the point of being confused for disinterest, she's actually listening. A woman of medium height, Nagisa is well-build from her work and often times misses small smudges from said word on her clothing after she leaves for the day.

Surely, everyone knows the story of the Mystery Five? A curious monkey spirit came to each of them for help searching for his lost kin. The five young Minor Clan samurai formed a band and began to tour the far reaches of the Empire, investigating rumors of wandering spirits in-between concerts. These spirits were inevitably exposed as elaborate ruses intended to hide dishonorable activities. The Mystery Five were often chastised by the local magistrates for meddling in affairs beyond their duties, but their efforts were recognized by those they helped, including the monkey spirit, the Detective. The Detective and the Mystery Five has gone through many changes over the past decade. with variations of theme and format and the ultimate departure of most of the cast. The heart of the show, however, was always the Detective and his most loyal ally, Souta, played by Kitsune Kiyoshi.

Kiyoshi is young, friendly and energetic. Of the Five, he was dubbed the "Small One" or the "Goofy One", due to his small stature and a number of hapless misadventures. The Kitsune is currently on a solo tour, following the final season of Souta and the Detective. There are rumors that the property has reached its end. Or, that Kiyoshi's role in it has. The Fox idol may be seeking to reinvent himself, but he's given no public indication of that. In fact, one of the monkeys used to portray the Detective accompanies him. That is unsurprising, however. It's well known that the animal loving shugenja has adopted many of his furry costars over the years and taken them to sanctuary.

Kiyoshi's trvels recently brought him to the World of Dreams While there, he participated in a number of events that created a new surge in his popularity In particular, his appearance on Nari-chan the Kitsune's live stream and his efforts to aid the Tsukune no Saisei no Kibou Wildlife Sanctuary elevated his appeal to nature lovers and wildlife conservationists. The are rumors of a new tour for Kiyoshi and the Detective and, perhaps, a new show. For now, the duo has come to Nakahama in pursuit of rest, relaxation, and some other interests.

The Detective and Goldwing

[Kuni Iwane]

Able to trace his lineage back to Kuni Mokuna, Kuni Iwane is a practical researcher and bioengineer of the Crab Clan, currently stationed on Green Carp with Kuni Gensei Biologics. He oversees the company’s applied research and manages negotiations with local authorities and foreign clients. Known for his single-minded determination, Iwane prefers clear results over ceremony and has earned a reputation as a reliable team lead.

He lives in a penthouse near the Nakahama docks with his cat, Yami, and is rarely seen without his tabako inhalator. Those who know him describe him as reserved and soft-spoken. He wears the face paint of his teacher proudly, and prefers 'traditional' garments that might have been fashionable centuries ago, but now look sorely out of place.

Description:
Yakuna looks like a typical Mantis samurai, perhpas missing the traditional tan, though she is looking to catch up in that area on the beaches of Tango island. She either dresses in glamorous suits appropriate to a corporate setting, or glamorous outfits when she is playing hostess on her gambling hall of a yacht, the AZure Dragon.

Background:
Yakuna arrived to Green Carp 3 years ago, visiting as part of the diplomatic corps. She is known to have familiar relationships here, her dather being a Green Carp born and bred Yasuki merchant, and her grandfather still had some influence. Ole pappy has recently retired to be a monk of Daikoku, and as part of his retirement, he bequethed the Azure Dragon to Yakura. SOme thought it was a joke, some thought it was a curse, the ship was a well known money sink at that point. Originally built for luxury cruises across the seas, Yakura renovated it and renewed its purpose as a floating casino. Since establishing her business, she has bought a house, a car, thought she still often sleeps on the ship while working.

Hooks:
-Betting on ships: Yakura's claim to fame is the Azure Dragon. Though she doesn'T always meet and greet, she can often be found there. She's also quite free in inviting people of note to the ship, recognizing that a good reputation pays back dividens. The ship is known for being roughly fair in tis games, people lose money of course, but rarely in any obscene ways
-Woman with a drive: besides her ship, Yakura also owns a sports car which she adores and takes goodcare of. She's fond of driving just over the speed limit when possible, and has had to pay fines to the magistrates for such in the past.
-Just a business woman doing business: Besides her ship, Yakura is always on the lookout for furthering her ventures, looking to getting into big in the entertainment game on the planet. She's open to any ideas and iswilling to listen and patronize any businesses that would extend her goals.

[Miya Kisha]

The girl who would become Miya Kisha was born the only child of a wealthy branch of the Miya, one steeped in tradition and with connections among the communications networks that operate in the Empire. She was raised in large part to become somebody's good wife, training in the traditional practices of the Shisha for the most part and picking up a smattering of skills that her parents and teachers thought would behoove a young woman apt to move among high society. And she did decently enough at the things she was told to do, even if it was the case that her attention often wandered to gossip and innuendo...but that wasn't far out of line for the plans her family had for the small young woman, so it was more or less indulged.

Imagine the family's surprise when Kisha found she had her finger on the pulse of popular culture and started moving the initial project given her--managing a media outlet--towards tracking it and reporting on it to the Empire at large. She's still new at it, admittedly, still finding her way, but the opportunity to raise her emerging brand in Tango Province is too good a chance to pass up...

[Tamori Kanna]

Physical Description
Kanna is a short young woman, with black hair and sparkling green eyes that always seem excited about something. She is always seen well-dressed in cute coordinated outfits that combines different eras of fashion, usually topped off with a stylish hat of some sorts. Despite her small figure, she is very fit and likes to work out.

Known Information
Tamori Kanna is the fourth child in a somewhat distant branch of the Tamori kuge family, making her kind of important but also not very. Her branch family specializes in medicine and wellness products, and some years ago started up a medical-spa in Dragon spa - Usagi no Yomogi spa. Being a somewhat endearing person, Kanna ended up as a brand ambassador for the MediSpa, and on the internal network of the Dragon has become something of a minor influencer as she shares videos from her visits to the spa and use of the brand's products - though those who watch her content are quick to admit that she tends to go off-topic frequently and end up showing off new clothes or share updates about her pets.


Igoro, the heimin handler

Accompanying Kanna on her trip to Green Carp is Igoro, a heimin assistant. Slightly chubby with light facial hair, Igoro has the benefits of working for someone pretty well off and gets to enjoy nice clothes as well as luxuries usually not available to those of his caste. However, it also means he's responsible for making sure that everything goes smoothly and Kanna doesn't get into trouble.
He is already lamenting that he looks older than he is.

Kaida, the faithful companion

Kaida is a small dog, of a breed native to old Rokugan. He is a very loyal and sweet pet, who is doted on plenty by his mistress. He loves attention and would probably perish if he doesn't get his regular cuddles or daily quota of adoration from people.

Suzume Hitomi has been a resident of the Golden Carp for the past 4 years. The shop she oversees, Feather Your Nest, is one of very few places outside the homeworld where the Sparrow trade in craft items made on Rokugan with traditional methods (though sometimes utilizing modern materials) and antiquities that are not being retained in Imperial collections (after appropriate review!). True to Sparrow form, where other samurai might be merchant patrons, leaving most of the actual work to heimin, Hitomi is often seen behind the counter and is a very hands-on business owner.

HItomi herself, however, does not match most people's image of a Sparrow, with well-tailored clothing that elegantly merges traditional elements with newer trends and materials. Her beauty regimen is rumored to be as extensive as any found in the capitol's courts. The Perceptive might notice that the delicate and sophisticated makeup uses a light touch--which coincidentally uses less of the expensive products involved, and some of her outfits can be identified as cleverly modified Koi styles and upcycled goods from Run-it-Back. So she probably isn't embezzling all the profits for her wardrobe. Probably.

When not at the shop, she can often be found elsewhere in the shopping district, or enjoying the beach--under a large hat and enough clothing to avoid the sort of tan that might get her mistaken for a yam farmer.

Now when I say Usagi Drop! and ask for the first thing you think of then many think of the lyrics and personality of Kakita Nazuna, or the stage presence and sheer enthusiasm of Asahina Hinata, or perhaps the exquisite and smooth moves of Doji Yuta, some might say the smile and affability of Kakita Tomoyo . . . which leaves one more member and few would think of Kakita Hiroki before the other four. That said, the Quiet One would still be unable to walk down the main street of any of our colonies without being mobbed by fans, just when compared to his bandmates he often takes a step back and avoids being totally in the spotlight.

So you might think he is the least member of the band? You would be wrong. Just listen. plays sound clips There, do you hear it? Nazuna's strong vocals in the higher pitches, Hinata's even higher than that. Then Tomoyo and finally Yuta registering lower. Where is Hiroki? He's the harmony. His voice is what holds the band's harmonisation together. Without him Usagi Drop! would be so . . . much . . . less.

Oh and this you must know. You just MUST. Who did we see walking into the exclusive, and I will say extremely expensive, Golden Swallow restaurant orbiting Isora's Rest last night? Well I'll tell you. None other than the coral haired little beauty that is Kakita Hrioki of galaxy famous Usagi Drop! Oh yes, one of our Drop Bois! Ki-kun!!
And who walked in not five minutes later? that would be the dashingly handsome Doji Shion, star slugger, reigning MVP and magazine fronting sensation of the Miyabi Blue Stars baseball team!!!!
Coincidence? I think not. How else do you explain the blue star bracelet Ki-kun has been wearing the last few weeks? Hmm, I bet Shion-san is missing one of his stars from last years Series pennant!

Born to the Marriage of Bayushi Akira and Doji Wasuke, Hinata spent most of his life in the World of Dreams before enrolling in the "Crimson Silks" military academy. He constantly got into trouble for his general disregard for the Scorpion's traditional etiquette in regards to mask-wearing. Coming from a home mainly tended to by a Crane father, he had developed a habit of freely removing it in public, something that irritated most of his peers and teachers.

Nevertheless that very same closeness to his father seemed to lend him his skill at duelling, quick and deadly, he often remained of top of the competition in regards to settling matters of contention.

A convenient skill to have at the Orchid Department, where he quickly found himself employed in the same section as Kazushi. Developing a lighthearted friendship as a troublemaker and problem solver at the same time. Though his reputation mainly pertains to the latter.

In the end, concessions were made. Hinata wears his mask modelled after his mother's own hanging from the side of his head. Quick with a smile and friendly expression, and just as quick to don the contrastingly feral mask when formality or danger demands

Hinata doesn't much care for the specifics of the post as long as he gets to enjoy his time in the Resort World, with enough skill one can mix business and pleasure right?

Hooks:
-Bad Reputation: Hinata is mostly regarded in a negative light both inside and outside the Scorpion clan. Publicly this is attributed to arrogance and disregard for tradition. Yet something seems missing in most tales that build his portrait.

-Duellist: The Scorpion are always looking for favours, and Hinata is not above representing someone outside his clan in the (Now much rarer) art of Iaijutsu in order to score some benefits for himself and his clanmates

- What hides beneath the mask?: Everyone wears a mask, that much is known. Hinata merely chose not to wear a physical one. Is there more behind the pretty eyes and friendly smirk? Or are those expressions as sincere as they feel?

Physical Description:
The first impression most receive of Ichitaiyo is of a ephemeral spirit, with pale colors and unimpossing figure that fades with apparent frailty, then grounded into the world with the sharp gaze she bears, firm like a stance of defiance.

What follows is an apparatus that covers the lower half of her face, similar to a rebreather, but made from a white porcelain rather than utilitarian materials, gently breezing with the energies of air kami.

Her voice is low and husky, and seems to speak with an air of constant scrutiny to her tone and stare.

Most often than not she is seen wearing drab and subtle clothing, trying to fade into the background, but when public appearances demand it, she will gladly dress beyond her station, projecting power and might as needed.

Background:

Born to a tragic affair between a samurai and a peasant, Ichitaiyo grew well surrounded by love and support until the cutthroat politics of the Empire claimed the life of her parents. Bearing blood tainted by peasantry, she could only find a place to serve under Futaro Kitsuki, who puts her skills and abilities to use for tasks that bear the risk of dishonor and punishment.

Tired of living under the collar of Futaro and cognicent of the eventual early end said duty will lead her to, she seeks new opportunities and horizons to gain control over her future.

Hooks:
- Business: Ichitaiyo is very discontent with her station and seeks to prove her worth to move away from Lady Futaro, and for this, she is capable of serving the interests of anyone that might sever her chains. She deals in information, lies and the dishonorable.

- Come bully her: Is your character a heel and needs a puppy to kick? Ichitaiyo's a black sheep without support or power, no one in her clan will come in help of her, the perfect victim for samurai bullies.

- Add color to her life: She may be edgy, but is the opposite of heartless. New connections can open her to new worlds and sensitivities, and she might wander into new sights and places.

- Guilty pleasure: Dance is her outlet and memory of a better life. Hidden as a commoner as a club, she will unmask and lash with passions that might not pass unnoticed. Or dance secretly, under the shade of night.

[Kakita Haruhi]

Physical Description:
She has long white hair, loosely bound by a headband made of circuitry parts and radiant blue lights. Pale skin. Her makeup has lines suggestive of articulated plates as if she had been constructed, like her avi-drones. She is often accompanied by at least one and as many as three songbird drones ("avi-drones"). She wears a light blue traditional kimono with embroidery suggesting circuitry. The style and construction is very old school, very unfashionably traditional, very ... did this woman just step off Golden Mirror? (Yes, yes she did.)

Her voice is also notable - rich and melodic.

Background:
Haruhi has pioneered a process of musical composition that uses digitally recorded birdsong in several of the vocal lines that intermingle and harmonize with her own voice - duets, trios, choral ensembles - for one woman and as many avi-drones as the piece includes. Of course each avi-drone must look exactly like the bird in question. Ever so carefully sculpted. And there is always dance-and-flight choreography, for the live performance.

Her new Yasuki patron is excited to capitalize on this new fad particularly for wedding gifts and the sealing of partnerships - commerical or marital or both - custom songs blending the birdsongs from each person's native planet or heraldry. She has invited Haruhi to Green Carp, with the opportunity to study, record, and program new avi-drones in the likeness of the unique birds of Green Carp. Some jungle travel required.

Do you like music and dance? Her style is far from pop idol vocals, but she is slowly gaining fame with a small audience who appreciate a certain experimental classicism. And she does like music and dancing, from many genres.

Do you like fashion? Yikes, you might be a little horrified at hers. It's really old school. But you might also be familiar with her daring and highly fashionable older sister - yes, that Kakita Ruri - who introduced the Lolita style to the Crane clan.

Do you like drones and tinkering? She spends lots of time experimenting with the best sculptural approach that will permit the drone to best imitate the bird in question. She would love to talk shop with a fellow drone artisan.

Do you like travel? She would like to hear about the birds from your home world and the places you've visited, and she's looking for travel partners and patrons. Even soon ... that jungle is not the *safest* place. And it may take years to finish on Green Carp, but then ... where to next?

Ami is on world for two things. Business, as an emissary of the Susumu and the Obsidian Pearl Boba Tea and Frozen Yogurt chain, seeking to try for any success on the new Yasuki holdings. And for pleasure. It is a resort world, a place to kick back. What better place to celebrate her first solo assignment.

While Ami could be considered merely a "trust fund kid," she is far more than that. A keen mind for business, she is an excellent example of what the Susumu school prides in its students. Cunning, ambition, and undying loyalty to the Spider.

This is her first major "mission" off-world, and a chance to prove her mettle. Even in a hostile environment, she exudes confidence and grace. Maintaining a certain distance from those beneath her, she knows what must be done, and how to beat enjoy the marrow from life.
