Was it challenging to try and play a sort of one and a half character arrangement with Honoka and her bodyguard? It's easy to just bundle NPCs together as a GM but as a player, displaying agency in different but tightly knit characters can be difficult.

Having plenty of experience running such NPC, I didn't find it too terribly difficult. Mostly because I allowed myself to treat him as fairly two dimensional overall. Same you might do with any other background NPC, hint at potential depth that could be there if this was their story instead.

At times the biggest worry on my brain is deciding whether or not having him act in certain capacities was okay! As I didn't want him accidentally becoming a shield in the fourth wall as well.

Which, in a way, everything I did with him was mostly just developing Honoka. As it wasn't really him I was developing but the relationship Honoka has with the person whom is her bodyguard. Just took a little writing of him acting to show that!

Crab + Keikaku, because it's the plan!! Also, I mean, once I have that name down there ain't a whole lotta other business models that feel like they fit perfectly. Every addition just kinda builds on itself from there until I got this absolutely zany idea for a restaurant which was popular and I appreciate everyone who had interest and made use of the space!!!

Crabkaku was cute, as was the Crabbo include! Started as a mere Clan forum mascot, now a canon part of the game! The Ruisu interaction is also very adorable!

I don't think I hinted at any sort of trouble Umiko was in prior to the game. What sort of things did you envision from the two in the beginning? More sleepy talks on the communicator? The great plushie laundering?

I'm glad to see I am good at writing up/dreaming up characters folk find precious! Ichika was on the younger side, and thus had a lot of young girl qualities to her so hitting that mark again with a full grown woman was fun!

Thank you for matching the energy so perfectly and wonderfully! I'm so glad I had the idea when I was commissioning the art, almost last minute, to include Crabbo as a little Easter egg even if the folk who would be able to catch it were slim (likely just me and you) but I'm so very glad I did!

Some of the internal planning bits that happened with the decision on Umiko being her ally advantage is kinda funny in hindsight. One thing that lead to the decision, is I wanted to pick a character who would help cement Honoka onto the island. I wanted someone she could have been best friends with, because this was a character who warms typically pretty slowly to truly trusting people.

So, having Umiko and then also adding in her own mother's love for the island really helped me tether Honoka to the game in the way that she has to protect this place her mother loves, and the place she met her dearest Umiko and thus loves herself.

So. I looked at the sisters. I can say part of it that was amusing is I wanted to pick Umiko over Ayame to not feel like I was mechanically dibbsing "the important NPC" (haha). However, really the biggest thing that lead to it is she seemed the one who was more likely to be someone who, as a child, would have sat next to her on a beach like "The way you talk about crabs is really cool," and then, despite being a more outgoing still hangout with her.

I liked that outgoing person vs reserved person friendship vibes! Then even more when it developed, and they're still different in a lot of ways that for them seems pretty well matched together.

A truth that still made me feel like I took part in the.. second Banner? Mantis underwater world! Black Fin stayed around even if I didn't and by that measure I was able to still feel a tiny bit a part of things. It's fun, making player locations!

Now, expanding!? Well, maybe! I can't imagine if Honoka finds the business to be properly economically viable and able to do so she would pass up the chance. After all, the more Crabkaku's there are the more people will have the opportunity to learn about crabs! And that is her ultimate goal.
