Poll #4: Mission?

An Imperial Explorer survey ship full of samurai from many Clans has gone missing in the Eastern Nebula, a largely unexplored and mysterious region of the Empire. The Throne has dispatched a small search and rescue operation headed by the Firefly Clan, given their most recent success in the area. What would be the best course of action for this mission?

I love my MCA and my Families. It might be good to spotlight them.

I think this poses a conflict of theme vs player options. While I would very much agree that limiting the scope of participation would make the most sense to the concept, it narrows down the possible player character options, and percludes recurring characters from outside the more limited pool of participants.
All of this to say I'd love to reprise Hinata in this potential new themed game, but that might be at the expense of a stronger theme for other players, which ends up in a conflict of cooperative narrative interest

Option 2. I find clan-focused games can create some interesting views on character creation when options become less open, and you explore more differences within clan than between clans.

While I do like clan focused games, I think it's difficult to find a good balance of clans allowed or not allowed which is why I prefer the all clans option

I'll be real honest, I voted with a little tinge of the "because of Koyuki's backstory, she would be such an excellent 'expert' they might tag for this kinda thing"
I like focused games, generally! Keeps the tone set and everyone on board with the mission!

I like the clan limitations, however, for mechanical effects, it should be largely allowed for players to have the skills of a 'foreign' school, so character creation is not so limited.

I feel compelled to vote for all clans, as I have a former Dragon Phoenix who has been waiting to study the nebula again.

I enjoy making a character within a limited scope of clans. I think it can inspire new ideas, a new vibe.
(But totally open to any option!)

Admittedly! It makes more sense to have a variety of Clan here than Nakahama.
I think any option of the three options has more than an ample amount of space for character creation, as they aren't restricted to one Clan.

I imagine this would still be open, yes. This could be an interesting point of friction, rather than a point of pride. A Firefly trained in the great Akodo school, but can't handle zero gravity? Hm.

It feels to me like almost everyone is saying, "Yes, strongly theme the composition, but don't absolutely prohibit a character just based on clan." I think if the standard is "These clans/types of characters make the most sense; others will be allowed with compelling backstory justification," then that's fabulous.
A proud Lion who's been unofficially exiled to deep space mining for killing someone whose true love had the power to send them away - that's potentially really cool and thematic by their circumstances, regardless of their clan and school. Is a "Kakita artisan who really wants to explore space because that's always been their dream" gonna fit in the game? I think it's fine to leave that to the GM. Maybe the storylines are such that this gets a, "Oh honey, no. You don't want to do that. Your character will be so tormented and isolated." Or maybe a fish-out-of-water character is fine - I think that's an "It depends" situation.
