[D9 EM] A beach walk (expecting)

Haruhi set out that morning to explore the beach, looking for a Nakahama plover. A coastal bird that sailors had mentioned to her.

It would be good to get footage and add to the avi-drone schematic catalog.

She walked along the edge of the water, glancing from the water's edge to the sky and back again. Listening.

She was wearing a light kimono and a white sunhat.

It was early morning, and Kanna decided to let Igoro sleep in some more this day. So after throwing on a simple sundress and sunhat, she took Kaida for his morning walk. This time down to the beach area!

The small dog ran along the edge of the water too, one of the rare times he wasn't on a leash, as his hooman didn't expect him to run into many people at this hour in this place. He would dart back and forth as the waves gently rolled in, trying to avoid getting himself wet, then giving chase to the retreating water.

Then as the pomeranian spotted another person, in a light kimono and sunhat, he began to zoom off in the direction of Haruhi.

"Kaida, no. Kaida, come back!" Kanna tried to command him back, hoping the dog wouldn't cause any offense before she could get him to heel, and she broke into a jog after him.

Haruhi saw the incoming dog and smiled. "Hello, puppy!" That was how she addressed dogs of all ages.

She leaned over, hand extended, palm up, for the dog's investigation, which might - hopefully - slow him down long enough for his owner to catch up.

Oh! Was that Tamori-sama? She'd seen her featured in many of the competitions.

She gave her a bow as she drew closer.

And dogs of all ages were puppies!

Kaida's tail wagged happily as the new hooman greeted him, and went in for a sniff to inspect. Meeting new hoomans was more interesting than running anyway! He sniffed the hand again, then did a happy spin, then another quick sniff before he looked up to Haruhi expectantly.

"Kaida-kun, please don't bother people..." Kanna caught up, not even out of breath from the quick jog, a good sign of her fortitude and fitness. "Ah... Kakita-san! Good morning! Come here, Kaida-kun. I hope he's not disturbing you?"

"Not at all. He's darling!" She said, sincerely.

"How are you doing? I'd hoped to get the chance to chat with you more. You've been a star in the competitions and I hear your tell fortunes! That's so intriguing."

Kaida recognized he was being praised, and the tail-wagging intensified as did the gaze that spoke the silent words of pet me!!! So excited in his waiting for pets, he did another spin.

"He really is a darling," she agreed with a warm laugh accompanying her words. "I'm good, thank you, and I hope you're well too?"

But Kanna was a little surprised, and blinked with big eyes. "Wow? Really? I didn't know I was a star! But yes, I am a diviner - trained by the Tonbo." Famous diviners, after all. At least in Kanna's opinion. "I've seen you at a distance before, and I must say I love your outfits. You're always so nicely dressed, Kakita-san!"

Haruhi petted little Kaida most enthusiastically, carefully paying attention to where he liked being petted most.

"Oh thank you! My sister is really the fashion star, but I am experimenting here. There is something about Nakahama and all the visiting samurai here that is giving me courage to try some bolder more modern looks. And I mean that only in comparison to Golden Mirror where I was stationed last - nothing but the *most* traditional handmade kimonos there."

"I have heard of the Tonbo diviners. There are so many ways to do divination. If I had the skill, I would want to be a reader of bird sign, since my work is all focused on studying birds."

Kaida was very happy to have his head petted. And his back. Then he followed up by flopping over on his side to have his tummy rubbed. Such inviting floof...

"Oooh? I didn't know Golden Mirror was so strict. Is it like on the homeworld of Rokugan then? Where everything is preserved as it was in the old days?" Kanna wondered out loud, watching the interaction between the two.

"Augury you mean, neh? Not my area of expertise, but it is very nice since it involves looking at animals!"

She continued to study how best to pet the pup, responding to his motions.

"Yes, it's intended to recreate the homeworld. It is very strict for those in continuous residence - all become part of the recreation. Co-exhibitors. It is less strict for tourists. It is intended to be a place that can be visited to experience what was."

She smiled, glad to find a fellow animal lover.

"How are you finding Nakahama? What's been your favorite activities so far?"

"I am curious about my future, my fortune, but I would not presume to ask you to tell it to me, unless it is something you enjoy doing."

It seemed everything in the stomach-area was highly appreciated, judging by the wagging tail and the open mouth that made it look like he was making a dog-like smile.

"Golden Mirror sounds wonderful," she remarked, almost dreamily as she imagined what it must be like. "I like Nakahama a lot, though I can't imagine it can compare to Golden Mirror! But I love the sea and everything here, and the hosts have been so wonderful!"

It was only a brief moment she needed to remember her favorite activity; "I really liked the First Market we got to take part in. Everything has been so much fun, but I thought that was a really touching moment to be allowed to interact with the future generation of Crab like that! But what about you, Kakita-san? What has been your favorite?"

She smiled brightly. "And I enjoy doing divinations, I'd be happy to read your fortunes, Kakita-san!"

She continued to pet his stomach, making little cooing noises.

"I like Nakahama, too. I'm glad I can stay here for awhile. As long as my Yasuki patron will have me. Will you be traveling on to other commitments, or staying here, as the events of the 12-day wide down?"

"Ah, I liked the First Market too. It felt like really making a difference here. And I could remember being that age, being so eager to please, having a success."

"I think of everything ... my two favorites were the Jade Chef competition and the LARP. I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy planning and executing the meal. And unofficially, I have very much enjoyed looking for the native birds, planning more avi-drone schematics, and particularly helping the jimen tori find their lost place of abundance."

A bright smile at the prospect of fortune telling. "Oooh! I can't wait."
