So long as you are referring to the roll for "Impressive", which may be any skill, yes. Please fluff these however you wish, within the bounds of the setting.Kaiu Tetsu wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 8:19 am This is mostly fluff, but would Engineering apply to making a diorama to a local landmark?
Please use the the standard trait associated with the skill (techniques or similar that can change the trait can still apply).Yoritomo Yakura wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 8:37 am When rolling for the skill, should we stick to the trait associated with the skill in the corebook, or can we improvise?
E.g. can we roll Sailing/Awareness to present an artifact/gift related to maritime activities.
Kitsuki Ichitaiyo wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:37 am Sorry for laying the first question out of place!
As a followup to my Investigation-for-Gift question, once I do my roll, if it is successful, I ask for you GMs for items of interest to dress my fluff post properly, right?

Is the roll forImpressive
Each introduction made by the guests of the party can be accompanied by a gift given to Yasuki Ayame, the governor, and her ruling office. Before the gift is given, please determine the character's offering and either the intent, origin, or topic of this gift. This is done by selecting any skill and making a roll at TN20, the skill in question must have some relationship to the gift. On success, the character receives a Free Raise when presenting the gift later in the event and an additional Free Raise for every 2 Called Raises made in the roll. The skill and trait combination must be that of the core book, although school technique replacement may apply. This is not a contested roll.
3: either/both!Susumu Sumiko wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:52 am So I've been reading the event and reading the questions and I think I'm getting more confusedso I think I need to ask to understand. Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question!

1) Preparing/buying the gift
2) Presenting the gift/having knowledge of the gift
3) either/both?
I honestly can't work out if the roll is supposed to be actual gift preparation/crafting etc or just having knowledge and then presenting a gift based on your knowledge, which is making me more confused on exactly what would be rolled for this (as in if it was a craft/artisan roll, or a lore roll, or something else).
When using Investigation for the Impression portion of the gift, I imagine it would be going toward something 'Investigation' related, coded, or in spirit. Perhaps something like a magnifying glass, or some Kitsuki evidence gathering tool, talcum from an ancestor?Kitsuki Ichitaiyo wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:37 am Sorry for laying the first question out of place!

Susumu Sumiko wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 10:31 am I think I'm having an idiot day...by 'skill you are rolling' what do you mean? I really don't mean to ask silly questions for some reason either the wording or that part of the event is not clicking (or I'm overthinking it) and I'm not understanding it.
This is the 'skill you are rolling' the skill you selected here. This is done by selecting any skill and making a roll at TN20, the skill in question must have some relationship to the gift
I was thinking of a 'Ichitaiyo hits the streets to learn of something Ayame secretly likes very much, which then Ichitaiyo procures something related to without much hassle' scenario, but will do the second if that is the GM intention.Boogiepop wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 10:33 am When using Investigation for the Impression portion of the gift, I imagine it would be going toward something 'Investigation' related, coded, or in spirit. Oh! Hm, she is surprisingly easy going (which ever rolls the most impression points) but for fluff ideas, she might appreciate something gaijin-related steam-era based relic? Fine alcohol? Something Susumu Yakumo or Heavenly 7 related?Kitsuki Ichitaiyo wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 11:19 amI was thinking of a 'Ichitaiyo hits the streets to learn of something Ayame secretly likes very much, which then Ichitaiyo procures something related to without much hassle' scenario, but will do the second if that is the GM intention.Boogiepop wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 10:33 am When using Investigation for the Impression portion of the gift, I imagine it would be going toward something 'Investigation' related, coded, or in spirit. Your success on the Impressive Roll gives you Free Raises for the Very Nice roll as follows:Kitsuki Ichitaiyo wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 12:05 pm Bear with me asking some stuff again.
Regarding the Impressive part of the event, regarding the wording; "On success, the character receives a Free Raise when presenting the gift later in the event and an additional Free raise for every 2 Ralled Raises made in the roll.", it means that the mere success on the Impressive Roll achieves the second effect of a extra free raise on the Very Nice Roll on the condition of applying two called raises in that moment, or that by applying two called raises on the Impressive Roll you obtain an additional free raise to use during the Very Nice Roll?

Impressive roll with basic success: 1 Free Raise for Very Nice
Impressive roll with 2 raises: 2 Free Raises for Very Nice
Impressive roll with 4 raises: 3 Free Raises for Very Nice
and so on, if there's anyone capable of calling and making 6+ raises.
