"You're the fourth," Kazushi responds. "Once against Yoritomo Yakura-san, once against Senshuken-san, and just now against Yasuki-san."

He pauses briefly as he maneuvers into position.

"Still looking for a win, unfortunately."

He starts strongly, for a beginner, but his follow-through needs some real work.

Suh-Hyun's eyes focus on the opposing drone. Her own drone easily avoided the Scorpion attack, zipping around and away. With the Scorpion having the better drone, the Unicorn fell back on her superior training. Controlling her momentum and altitude she was able to line up an attack, and dove in with unnerving speed.

"That was...as quick as I expected," Kazushi says as he watches Katsumi go chasing down his banner as it flutters away in the breeze. "I should probably stick to Fantasy Flight..."

"Defeat is a hard teacher, but an effective one," Suh-Hyun lowered her own drone to the ground, "As long as one can walk away from the fight."

With the fight over, her smile grew more sympathetic, "My coworkers love that game, never got into it myself. Fantasy Flight I mean."

"I play a bit. Sometimes Player Station Plus needs one more person to round out the tournament bracket, so I help them out." she reveals.

"It had a surge of popularity at the Crimson Shadow Academy while I was there," Kazushi recounts, "and I picked it up there as a way to pass the time between classes."

"There was a tournament today for it?" Suh-Hyun asked, "I wish I had stopped by and watched. The basic mechanics make sense to me but when the combos start going off I quickly loose track of what is happening. Suddenly a bunch of stuff happens and one player is out."

Taraka nods.

"Yeah, it's not something you can really just pick up by watching. And some people are very good at playing, but poor at teaching." she agreed.

"There this one player who really really wants to teach. But he is the absolute worst at it. Mostly because his teaching style is so weird. Rather than give you an overview, or suggest how to play your first few turns, he just tries explaining the cards one by one without any context."

She thought back to a particular bad teaching session at Player Station Plus.

"And this card gives you five camels!" she exclaimed with a small laugh. "What are camels for? Why do you want them? These are the questions he does not think to answer."

"I'm satisfied with where I placed," Kazushi says. "Kaiu Ryosei-san is a top quality player, so losing to him is no disgrace."

"One only truly tests themselves against strong opponents," She smiled, "Though I rarely think losing any game is a disgrace. It's relatively low stakes as they say. Better to enjoy the game, learn, and come back stronger."

Suh-Hyun chuckles at the Yasuki's comments, "As my instructors were fond of saying: fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals. It's hard to gain any skill without a solid foundation to build on after all. Also if I may ask...why camels?"

The Yasuki gave a small shrug.

"Why camels indeed?" she asked back. "He never did explain. From what I could glean it was a deck themed around deserts, but how it was to achieve victory, that he never detailed, nor did I witness."

She shakes her head.

"He still ranks pretty high at Player Station Plus. But while he is objectively the worst person to learn games from, the best is also visibly flawed. He's a master of the rules, and explains things in a sensible order. He tends to be a bit hands off when it comes to opening moves, unless you ask, which isn't the problem. The real problem is his sense of humor. He thinks it's funny to slip in random joke rules with the same serious intensity he explains the real rules. Kind of like, 'Untap your card. Then offer a quick prayer to the Fortune of Tapped Cards for your success and then...." And then has the audacity to be shocked when new players ask, "Um, how does the prayer to the Fortune of Tapped Cards go?"

"Tapped cards?" Suh-Hyun smiled awkwardly, then blinked, "Oh, when you turn them sideways. To show they are used?"

She seemed to ponder the comment for a moment, "Hmm, I've been more of a boardgame player myself if I am being honest. Come to think on it, I have read a few rulesets where the designers thought they were being clever with a few jokes. Usually it was just annoying. Which I suppose is your point really."

Taraka tilted her head at that.

"That's probably true, Bayushi-san. Some workdays humor is what keeps you going when all else fails. And there are certai shared insights that lead to humor particular to a certain in-group." she offered.

"But I am curious, do you have an example of a joke from your industry in particular, Bayushi-san? I'd be interested to see if I can find any similarities."

Because that was what the Shinjo secretly wanted, more jokes. Taraka....may not have picked up on that quirk.

"Well, there is one that I've found all-too true myself," admits the designer. "My wife has only two real complaints - she has nothing to wear and not enough closet space. Or the one about the critic at the fashion show, decrying that all the models were just a bunch of posers."

He shakes his head.

"Love them or hate them, puns do give us a momentary respite from the everyday. You have to wonder about the person who invented the pun. Who first said, 'This word sounds like this word so what if I used it instead? Clearly they were a-head of their time." she offered.
